The SDL Project Management Process:

Initial Client contact
SDL's Project Managers and Sales Executives utilize their considerable experience of the localization industry to help prospective clients avoid wasting time and costs at later (and often more critical) stages of project development, producing quotes specific to your individual priorities.

Project Planning
SDL will make sure the project plan is always available to your organization, ensuring that project perceptions are aligned right from the start. Milestones are discussed and the Plan will be constantly updated to adapt to the demands of the project as it develops.

Client Hand-over
SDL insist on seamless continuity for our clients; everything that is promised by any one part of SDL is the result of experience and understanding of our capabilities and will always be delivered. The SDL Project Manager will in effect, at this point, become your Project Manager, providing you with clear and effective communication on your localization.

Resource Request
Once the Plan is clear, your SDL Project Manager will complete a Resource Request to ensure that, right from day one, you have the right resources assigned to the successful completion of your project, ensuring that your project deadlines and budget targets are met without the general sense of panic that localization can bring!

Internal Team Brief
Your SDL Project Manager will draw together the internal team to explain your project requirements and the milestones you have agreed. All points of contact will be discussed to ensure clear and constant communication throughout the team.

Communication and Availability
Underpinning the many internal processes to ensure the quality of your final localized product is the fundamental role of communication. No matter what the time zone, daily contact, if required, is guaranteed. SDL exploit all forms of communication to ensure that you are never out of touch with your product during localization. From desktop video conferencing to snail-mail, SDL can and does communicate.

Control Documents
SDL employs an exceptional quality monitoring process, ensuring that quality never needs to be sacrificed to time constraints. 'Status sheets', updated daily on a task-by-task basis, ensure the Project Managers know both exactly what the team is doing and what they are available to do as your needs change.

Project Meetings
At SDL, Project Managers ensure that Project Meetings take place at least on a weekly basis. They provide a chance to confirm the Client's changing requirements and to benefit from cross pollination on difficulties or successes that members of the team have experienced. The sense of team unity and communication is reinforced and real time and cost savings can be achieved.

Status Reports
Status reports are the critical link for you, the client, with your SDL team. This document summarizes all aspects of your Project. It details exactly where the team is; what actions are to be taken; what problems or successes have been encountered or envisaged; what milestones have been completed and when the outstanding ones are planned to be completed.

Certification
At SDL, the Project Manager will have ensured that all of your project materials have gone through linguistic tests on both extracted and integrated text to ensure the quality of the product throughout the project cycle. The final certification will reflect our absolute commitment to your product and will provide you with a guarantee of its quality.

Post Mortem
Once the project is finished, the internal team will be assembled to discuss all of the issues that were raised during the project cycle. SDL see this as essential to the continuation of the partnership with your organization. Everything that will increase the efficiency of future projects will be noted to enable us to provide you with continually better service as our partnership develops.

Post Project Survey
Finally, we will request your view of success. SDL understand that the only real judgement on our processes and service can come from you. We will ask you to tell us what our strengths and weaknesses were; what you liked and did not like. SDL listen and care about your thoughts because that is how strong successful partnerships are founded.

"I would like to express my deep gratitude to your team for handling a very hectic project.  I am pleased to have SDL as our localization partner" (Hewlett Packard)
